Faculty News: Mark Lacker recipient of prestigious Miami award

January 2017

Our own Mark Lacker, the John W. Altman Clinical Professor of Entrepreneurship, was recently given the Excellence in Career Development Award by the Center for Career Exploration and Success at Miami.

Heather Christman, the senior associate director of the center, was the one to nominate Mark based on his work providing career exploration and job search support to students in the Farmer School. Mark expanded opportunities to connect Miami students of all majors with new companies - a great achievement exemplified by his work in the startup community, as well.

“He provides exceptional support and career guidance for those students as they explore what their interests are and how they can leverage their skills and talents within those companies to help the companies meet their goals,” Heather said. “Mark is committed to ensuring that as many students have opportunities to experience life in the startup spaces as is possible.”

The nominated faculty member must meet most of the following criteria:

  • Developing career-mindedness in students.
  • High quality of information and advice.
  • Outstanding support of students.
  • Outstanding support for the Miami University Career Community.

Professor Lacker will be presented with this award, along with a stipend, at the Provost’s ceremony on April 10.

This award comes after Professor Lacker was named the 2016 Effective Educator, for which he gave the speech for the December 2016 graduation ceremonies.

Join us in congratulating Professor Lacker on this award!
